Pillars of Wellness
If you’ve attended any of my classes - you know I love a good analogy. I think they really help land the lesson, you know? Something digestible - relatable.
So, I thought it was appropriate to start my blog series with my favourite thing to chat about - and no, it’s not just yoga…
Let’s talk about wellness—not as a checklist, not as a trend, but as a home. Your home. One that you build, live in, and tend to with intention.
And like any good home, it starts with a foundation. You do need that base poured before anything else can truly stand. But here’s the fun part: you can still start collecting the design along the way. How many of us have bought a painting or a piece of furniture we love without knowing exactly where it’ll go? We still buy it. We make it work. It’s kind of like that.
Wellness works the same way. You begin with the foundation—something solid, something steady—and then you layer in the pieces that make it feel like you. The key is to start. Lay one slab. Let it land. And build from there
Physical Wellness (The Foundation You Return To)
Every house needs a strong base—but that doesn’t mean you have to start there. Physical wellness is your concrete slab, your structural integrity, your “I got out of bed and stretched today” win. It’s the part of your wellness home that holds everything else steady, even when life throws a little chaos your way.
Whether it’s finally swapping that sugar crash snack for something that actually fuels you, or moving your body in a way that feels like celebration instead of punishment, physical wellness is about honoring your body as the sacred space it is. It’s sleep that restores, movement that energizes, and nourishment that sustains.
Mental Wellness (The Walls)
Now that your body’s got some love, your mind needs room to breathe. Mental wellness is about clearing the clutter—those dusty thoughts in the corners, the cobwebs of comparison, the grit of guilt. It’s journaling, therapy, meditation, or just moving through, and to, something.
It’s the walls that hold your house together. Strong, flexible, and full of light.
Emotional Wellness (The Interior Design)
This is the vibe check. Emotional wellness is how your house feels when you walk in. Cozy? Chaotic? Cold? It’s about feeling your feelings without letting them redecorate your entire life. It’s about softness, boundaries, and the occasional ugly cry.
It’s the throw pillows, the candles, the playlist that makes you feel like yourself again.
Spiritual Wellness (The Sacred Space)
Whether it’s prayer, meditation, nature walks, or your morning coffee ritual, spiritual wellness is your quiet corner. It’s the part of the house that smells like incense and feels like peace. It’s where you go to remember who you are when the world forgets.
It’s not about religion—it’s about connection. To something bigger. To something deeper. To you.
Financial Wellness (The Plumbing)
Unsexy? Maybe. Necessary? Absolutely. Financial wellness is what keeps the water running and the lights on. It’s budgeting, saving, investing—and yes, maybe finally opening that spreadsheet you’ve been avoiding.
Money isn’t the goal, but it’s the flow. It’s the plumbing that keeps everything functioning behind the scenes
Social Wellness (The Garden)
Your tribe. Your people. Your chosen family. Social wellness is the garden that surrounds your house. It’s brunch dates, deep talks, shared playlists, and belly laughs. It’s tending to relationships that nourish you and weeding out the ones that don’t.
It’s the flowers that bloom when you feel seen, heard, and held.
Intellectual Wellness (The Library)
Curiosity didn’t kill the cat—it built the library. Intellectual wellness is about learning, growing, and challenging your brain. Read the book. Take the course. Ask the weird questions. Keep your mind as limber as your hamstrings.
It’s the bookshelf that keeps expanding. The room that always has space for more.
Environmental Wellness (The Neighborhood)
Your surroundings matter. The air you breathe, the space you inhabit, the energy you allow in. Environmental wellness is about creating a space that supports your growth—whether that’s decluttering your room or spending more time in nature.
It’s the neighborhood your house lives in. Make it beautiful. Make it safe. Make it yours.
Build Boldly
Each pillar stacks on the next. You don’t need to master them all at once. Just start with one. Lay the slab. Sweep the corners. Plant the garden. And build the house that wellness lives in.
Because this isn’t just about feeling good. It’s about being good—to yourself, to your people, to your purpose.
Trust me when I say that understanding this has taken a very, very long time for me (and I am still maybe 3% of where I see my own potential!). But first the first time, in my life, I feel that a foundation has been laid. For me, it started with Yoga. Finding my place on the mat where I had a chance to settle the demons, calm the chit chat, and let that little ember glow a little brighter. And slowly, over time, you put a little effort into building the rest. It becomes easier because it feels good. Because it feels like you’re building something meaningful.
So, what’s your first slab look like?
